Overall Methodology
We evaluate inventions based on their market potential, novelty, technical differentiation, and the inventors' experience. The primary goal of our report is to provide a qualitative analysis of the technology that would support a decision on whether to protect an invention and/or attempt to license it.
We also provide quantitative scores. These are intended to help teams find patterns or compare very different technologies. While these scores can provide helpful directional guidance, the true value of the report is the qualitative analysis underpinning the scores.
Tradespace also supports customization. Our customers can remove scores (e.g., Inventor Score) or change the weightings.
Calculation
Overall Score = Market Score (40%) | Novelty Score (40%) | Inventor Score (20%)
Market Score: Based on market size and market growth. Large ($10B+), fast-growing markets (10%+ CAGR) score the highest.
Novelty Score: Calculated based on the similarity index for each prior art result returned.
Inventor Score: Calculated based on license rate, forward citations, and portfolio age of each named inventor.
Report Materials
Our reports leverage any files added in the disclosure materials tab to understand a technology and generate analysis. Be sure that the "Use for AI" toggle is selected for a material if you want it to influence the report.
Sources
Tradespace's AI models perform web searches for journal articles, technical documents, market reports, company 10-Ks and strategy documents, product white papers, websites, and more. Tradespace also curates its own proprietary database of 100M+ patents from every global patent office to power its prior art search.
Given the variability in market report providers, Tradespace has specified a set of providers for our AI search to prioritize, if available. These include industry-specific reports (if available), Bloomberg, Forrester, Ipsos, BCC Research, and Markets2Markets.
Deep Dive
Market Section
Average Market Size & Growth Rate: This is the average of the market size and growth rates of the use-cases identified for the technology.
Use-Case
Each Market section includes up to three use-cases for the technology. Each use-case includes a brief explanation of its relevance to the technology, followed by market size and growth rate data β always accompanied by a link to the market report used to source the data.
We also include a list of companies actively doing work in the given market. Where possible, we identify products those companies provide in that market that could benefit from the IP. By clicking on a company, you can see a detailed explanation of why our AI recommended it.
Novelty
To identify potential prior art, we break the invention down into a set of core elements and perform exhaustive searches for each one. The searches cover our internal database of 100M+ patents and every major academic and scientific publication, plus a supplemental web search to uncover product specs, white papers, and other relevant materials.
We show up to 20 of our most relevant results, defined by the number of core concepts each piece of prior art teaches. Each result includes information about the art, plus a concise explanation of its similarities and differences compared to the original invention.
Commercialization
In this section we assess the invention's commercialization potential. If you are using Tradespace to collect disclosures, we pull in data like TRL and existing corporate interest. Otherwise, we focus on outlining the advantages the invention provides over previous technical approaches and any barriers to commercializing the invention.
